This is an analysis of a recent thought experiment we ran on Warpcast:
Through the past 24 hours we’ve arrived at a generalization that boomers care about security, generation x cares about balance, millennials value freedom, and zoomers seek self-meaning.
In 2025:
boomers are leaving the market
gen-x’ers enter the authority positions
millennials become the new middle class
zoomers are finishing biological maturation
One pov on this development, is that the internet is just now establishing itself as the next macroeconomic primitive. With its first generations of native proponents.
Theorizing
If we return to the root intention of the thought experiment, we begin to see that the conversation needs to shift with the times. In the spaces of economic narrative spinning, you can see why talks of 401k and NASDAQ 8% yield fall on deaf ears.
The new generations do not care about the same things. They are entranced by the ability to navigate and make sense of their own lives.
While this is certainly a chaotic time, it also provides ample opportunity for those generations to dictate the new narrative. Creating macro and microeconomic structures and systems that are more resonant with the way they wish to scale the future.
Higher as a variable
Higher will not be everything to everyone. But it can be more than what it is.
The reason we pursued the thought experiment was to figure out what higher can offer narratively for this said future. A future where millennials and gen z operate globally on a distributed web. Where money is free floating. Where the gig economy matures into modular career paths (ideally).
As such, it feels like we have identified freedom and meaning will be more than hallmark sentiments moving forward. No longer acceptable through voyeurism or idyllic vacation time. People want life to feel more personal.
Intuition
Therefore, when speaking to millennials, higher should probably be focused on enabling personal freedom in a market they now are becoming able-minded in. And while speaking to zoomers, higher should likely be focused on enabling their agency for sense making and market identity.
These things likely overlap. It’s the beginning of conversations that differ - and matter significantly.
We want millennials, with their newly tapped skill sets and networks, to be able to activate immediately in the direction that feels more freeing within the context of higher.
We want generation z, with their newly fertile self-consciousness, to find a destination, in higher, that allows them to author their own intentions and begin setting out on a path that gets them the skills and networks needed for their own choices.
Software-as-a-Spiritual-Endeavor
It is not an attempt to create dogmatism, or bend truths either. It’s a realization that as old structures fall, new ones must erect. And that the internet allows for a kind of coordination that makes generational-lifestyles manifest into market-verified economics.
Higher.
